Since the total length of the two metal shelves exceeds that of the bottom stainless steel round rods, you don't have to worry about items falling between the shelves. The back of the metal shelf has a 2 mm thick silicone pad that prevents it from sliding easily.

These two round rods feature a design that prevents detachment, even when fully extended, unless removed forcefully. The metal shelves won't easily detach from the round rods, and the side structure of the shelf can be seen in the images.
